The XPower Powerpack 1500 is a portable power system that produces household electricity for products rated at 1500 watts or less. A clean and quiet alternative to a generator, the XPower Powerpack integrates a 60 Amp/hour AGM battery with a 1500-watt inverter and produces a 3000-watt surge. This system is built to run a range of appliances such as a standard size refrigerator and microwave oven, and office equipment such as a computer, monitor, and fax machine.
The XPower Powerpack 1500 is designed for ultimate portability. See the product specifications. View the generator in greater detail.
A convenient design feature allows for easy set-up of the cart. View larger. The XPower Powerpack 1500 consists of a battery pack that stores electrical energy, state-of-the-art electronics that convert 12 volts from the battery pack to household power, an AC power panel that contains two standard outlets, and a DC power panel that is used to run 12 volt products. These components are packaged into a rugged "cart" with a removable waist handle that allows XPower Powerpack 1500 to be wheeled from room-to-room or outdoors over rough terrain.
An excellent alternative to a generator, the XPower Powerpack produces no noise or fumes and has no moving parts. With the accessories provided, you can easily recharge the XPower Powerpack using standard utility power from your wall outlet, your vehicle, or from a solar panel.
The XPower Powerpack can be used to produce power for numerous applications. For power emergencies it can run essential appliances like refrigerators, cordless/mobile phones, radios, fireplace fans, table lamps, or microwaves. For work sites, you can power your drills, belt sanders, circular saws, hedge trimmers, leaf blowers, vacuums, computers, large monitors, fax machines, and inkjet printers. The XPower Powerpack features a built-in 1500 watt inverter and sealed, non-spillable 60 Amp-hour AGM battery. Dual AC outlets allow operation of multiple products, and a built-in battery level indicator confirms the charge level. A high surge protection and automatic over-temperature and overload shutdown keeps the Powerpack running safely and efficiently, while a low voltage alarm and shutdown prevents deep battery discharge. You can recharge the Powerpack from home (up to 15 hours), or your vehicle (6 to 8 hours). A padded grip towing handle removes easily for storage in tight places, and built-in handles on sides allow for easy lifting.
The XPower Powerpack measures 14.8 x 15.6 x 12.3 inches (HxWxD), weighs 60 pounds, and is backed by a 1-year limited warranty.

- Reviewed in the United States on January 30, 2010Here's what I learned. I'm not an expert, but was looking for a practical solution to power outages.
1. Not practical if you are buying it to stay warm in power outages.
2. Extremely practical to run electrical items in the yard where no power is available. It's even on a rolling cart! Doesn't take up a lot of space in the garage when stored, but you'll want to keep it charged.
3. Somewhat helpful to make some coffee or run tiny appliances when the power is out.
4. Useful for lights during a power outage. Runs a big 3-way floor lamp, for instance.
5. Extremely useful for recharging your LAPTOP (or keeping your computer router running) during power outages or possibly even on camping trips.
6. Somewhat useful for running a radio/moderate-sized TV for a few hours.
7. Small appliances like a battery-operated radio or TV could run a long time on this unit after you have exhausted your batteries, probably would run them for a LONG time, maybe for days.
I originally bought 1 of these because I thought they would come in handy in power outages, to stay warm. That's not practical. You need one of the systems installed by an electrician/plumber that cost several thousand dollars for a workable heating and air conditioning system for power outages. That's not what this is for.
However, I bought 2 more and I'm so glad I did. I gave away 1 of the units to friends who are always doing things for others, so they could at least make coffee or oatmeal, etc., when the power goes out. I now have the whole-house generator I mentioned above, and even that is limited. My son uses the 1500 units I bought. He keeps his computer router hooked up to one in the cable room and he can recharge his laptop with it.
Think of it as a giant battery. You keep it plugged in and charged during the year and use it in bad weather for lights or making coffee, heating water, running tiny appliances, OR for projects in the yard that require electricity. The painters used one of them when they worked on my house earlier this year. This would come in handy if, for instance, your house was out of power for several days but you could go to a friend's house that has power and charge it. A larger unit might be a little more useful, but I don't think they are on carts, and those carts are a necessity for me. I need the portability. I hope this was helpful for someone. Others will prefer the technical information in some of the other reviews.
- Reviewed in the United States on October 30, 2017Not reliable. I have had two and both failed. The first one's batteries did not hold a charge despite keeping the unit plugged in. The batteries started to emit hydrogen sulfide gas (rotten egg odor). Xantrex wrote to me that this unit is perfectly safe to keep near a gas furnace, but it turns out that hydrogen sulfide is poisonous, corrosive, and flammable. 2nd unit's charger failed seconds after plugging it in the first time, complete with a "pop", smoke, and the smell of burning electronics. Don't waste your money.
- Reviewed in the United States on June 7, 2014This integrated unit looked so good and so convenient that I bought two of them. Bad move. Like all batteries, they are doomed to weaken after about 3 years -- they don't hold much charge any more, and they're virtually impossible to replace. Now one of my units has an inverter that instantly goes to "Failure" when I when I switch it on, even with no load and a fully charged battery pack. I'll be junking the whole thing soon.
Much better is to buy individual AGM 35AH batteries (for example) and a stand-alone inverter. That way, when something fails, it can be replaced. And while one battery is being used, another can be re-charging. Separate components are a much more sensible and flexible way to go.
The shipping charge alone to return this turkey for repair can buy a nice fresh battery. Phooey. This is the first negative review I've ever written on Amazon, but this product earned it.
UPDATE: July 14, 2014: Local "authorized service center" replied to my inquiry about repairs with this one-liner: "I regret to inform you the Xpower power pack 1500 is not serviceable." Really. Wow.
The unit is only 3 years old and now worthless as an AC power source. Batteries still seem to have some life in them, so I can power an external inverter, but when they go, I'm done. Big waste of money on this turkey. Shame on Xantrex for not producing a serviceable product and then not standing behind it. I would recommend that Amazon simply stop selling it.
I repeat my earlier recommendation: Buy a hefty battery, some thick power cables, and a standalone inverter. Make a wheeled cart for it if you want to. At least then you can service the thing yourself.
Note also: If you plan to power a refrigerator or other device that needs a lot of surge power to get the motor running, make sure the inverter can handle it ... read reviews from those who've bought it ... even for a small refrigerator, I needed one with over 2000 watts continuous power rating. Inverters with lower power ratings simply switch over to "fault" mode, leaving you high & dry.
- Reviewed in the United States on August 7, 2024I bought one of these units in 2008 and still use it today for an off grid power supply. The batteries were replaced once, upgraded with replacements I found at BatteriesPlus, they were helpful in offering different options and I upgraded with longer life batteries. The replacement process was easy, the most time consuming part was removing all the screws in the case. The battery wiring was pretty obvious.

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent Company to work with
This item was received and for some reason it did not function correctly. The manufacturer promptly provided a return address and paperwork and send a new one to my attention. The unit works fantastic and I can not say enough about the company customer support.
